Car Advice
Yes, actually trust the knowledge of WHOers on this one.

Have been out of the country for 8 years. Clueless about cars , had an old school Mercedes SL500 back in the good days and this is the only car I have bought and driven. Loved it.

NOW , Returning to UK for summer , need a car to drive round adults with special needs in a West Ham area , Gidea Park , help out my mate with his care centre , and to get grafting for a fellow hammer.

The thing is , all my money ( fuck all ) is tied up in keeping Spain gaff ticking over.

With a budget of 500 quid , is it possible to get a car to get from a to b that will last for 6 months ?

Or am I being over optimistic ??

Anyone with an old motor that still runs and wants to help out a hammer or point me in the direction of a good place for a cheap runabout.

Thanks ( Cunts ) In advance.

Apologies late reply, Thanks to all. Advice appreciated.
GPH my niece has downs syndrome and she is fine in the car , horses for courses , to be honest there is a fella called Clive , a mate of Dusty , his farts are more dangerous and distracting than 3 kids good as gold but with different needs.

GANK - It has alot to do with West Ham , 1. Will paint it claret and blue 2. Can get down and return the breakfast pints i owe you in that nice gaff.

Thanks all , looking at a japanese banger and gumtree.

AS for get a bike , what about the disabled , cunt idea , what , put them in a trailer and drag them along. fuck that.

Re: Car Advice
About 6 or 7 years ago, my car got written off after a care worker drove into the back of it while I was queuing at a roundabout. Due to a gap in traffic on a straight stretch of road, he had about a quarter of a mile in which to see me.

His passengers were three special needs adults, and one other care worker to look after them.

Almost certainly, his passengers distracted him.

Be careful!

Was once told by an RAC mechanic if you're buying a used car of a certain age to always go for a Japanese brand as they're the most reliable.

Ride a bike you lazy f*ck. Coming to our country buying cheap motors and polluting our air.

Seriously though definitely look at trade-ins or maybe even gumtree, but make sure you have someone with you who understands their motors. Also use online services to check a cars past MOT's and history by putting the reg in, you don't want a write off on your hands.

Have a look on Autotrader or see below for forest option

As someone else said £500 will get you a runaround Nissan micra or similar, they're pretty bullet proof.

I'd phone Glyn Hopkins and ask them if they've got any trade ins going! They only ship them off to auction! Good luck

Can't Gavros chuck in the money from the fund to help this guy out. That way if we ever have another 'pissed up Anne Frank' scenario we'll have the wheels to go and collect them!!!

Insurance will be a small fortune , prob more than the car costs

Re: Car Advice
for £500, you should easily get something reliable enough, with 9 - 12 months MOT.

Look at something like a turn of the century, or earlier, Toyota Avensis, or equivalent other Japanese make.

The local paper (or online version thereof) for the Gidea Park area, would be a good place to start.

Insurance could be just as expensive though, given your abscence from the UK car insurance market. You may want to price up some quotes for that, before you buy a car.

Re: Car Advice
Easy.

As long as you aren't worried about make, model, mileage.

Condition wise you can get one that's been looked after for that money. Will have wear and tear but that's a given.

Mondeo, any Volvo, Skoda Octavia, Golf, Passat. Should be able to pick all up for that money.

try going down the auctions...I worked there last year (Blackbushe airport) and lovely Volvo estates were going for next to nothing!

Re: Car Advice
Yeah as long as you aint a snob about what you drive.....your easily get a motor that will do the job for 6 months for ya! My last car cost me £800 odd and 3 years or so later, its still going strong and never had a prob with mot etc.
